CCP;
Why the info black out prior to today's 'announcement' about no patch until 21AUG and open invite to the EVE player community to enter DUST closed beta?
That is the real question: Why impose the information black out on your current testing community? Did DUST development staff decide this was the best way to communicate when and how the next steps in closed beta would proceed?
Did something happen with the roll out plan and Sony's lack of action that suggested saying nothing for several days regarding any changes, events, plans or otherwise was the best business approach to this matter?
I am just asking for a CCP response on this issue. I do not expect to get one. I do expect to hear a ton of play tester responses.
And I'll make this final statement: this is not good business. This is not a good approach to growing an integrated community. When you stop talking and don't explain why things are happening (or why they are not) the other side [yes - your actions create two distinct sides] starts to formulate their own ideas of why.
And this is where a distrusting or adversarial tone gets set in Player/Developer environments. Sometimes its the players. But in this case I would suggest that the testing community wants to interact, listen, assist and participate. Your choices of how that relationship proceeds can dictate how our community reacts to the development team and the game overall.
So, whatever the real reason you decided to communicate with the current closed beta community the way you did, please consider how it will effect our interactions in the future.
Very Respectfully,

Aaron Atreides wrote:FTOG... I know you all think you know whats going on at CCP and Sony, but really you have no idea. (either do I).
There are many parts to this company, what we saw today from IGN or other articles was done what a week or two ago, with a planned date to release that information. But that's just the PR guys chatting right, that's not Sony or the programmers who have a set date of plans to roll out everything. They are working on the update that's coming out, they want to add as much as they can by a set deadline. We all want patch notes, but those patch notes are not done and have things that may not make it to the update, so they can't come out and say a long list of things coming out, then the day of the update go.. Our bad with out players like you (yes any one of you, not just OP) would go ape **** on them. So they wait til the last minutes.
Again what you saw was a PR hyped article to push for this weekends EVE invitation. Thats all, a few highlights on the new build but really nothing we did not already know about. So please Keep Calm and Chive on, just relax now we know the new build is coming on the 21st.
Stop assuming you know everything, you don't.
Aaron, you misunderstand my point. I play EVE. Have since 2006. CCP is a terrific company that does great things. David Reid is an amazing Marketeer. Incredible PR guy. I know that the real picture is immensely more complex than any player trolling a forum can understand.
I want CCP to affirm that for us. I don't need detailed patch notes when they may not happen. I want CCP to say: "Hi Guys...we had planned to give you detailed patch notes or a rough roll out plan by today but complications w/ Sony's review of content is pushing us back. We might be able to give some info on what to expect by ...say, Thursday morning."
Or ANYTHING!
That's my point. When a company that has demonstrated its willingness to invest in a guy like Reid and that approach to building a market won't even post on a closed beta forum that stuff is happening but because of the internal complexities, or whatever, they can't give us as much feedback as they'd like...when they won't even do that -- it indicates that their focus is not on building a tight nit well informed community.
Their focus is on something else.
Take it from the people that have called CCP out in dramatic fashion before for losing focus on what counts.
Be careful how you run your business. Everything matters. How your fledgling MMOFPS community relates to you on a forum MATTERS.
I don't work for CCP. I don't need to know everything that is happening behind the scenes. But the kind of content devoid flavor posts that we saw from Grave, Nythanos, Unicorn and maybe one or two other employees over the past 4-5 days indicate to me that someone put a gag order on comms to the beta testers.
I ask why but I also state my opinion that this is not a good long term approach to building a solid player/game company community.
CCP will do what they want. For the reasons they want. I just want to be one small voice in the storm that decries this approach as unproductive. |

xxxlotta stuff....xxx
CCP will do what they want. For the reasons they want. I just want to be one small voice in the storm that decries this approach as unproductive. But here is the kicker, SONY has control over everything. Its not like Eve where they are the masters of the universe, this has SONY written all over it. Trust me, been there and done that. While you want patch notes or even a nice post by a GM, that actually opens up more issues then by saying nothing. Also they can't say due to Sony QA we can't get you this or that, or we can't say this or that. Think about it.. that would be CCP slapping SONY in the face on the forums. That will never, ever.. ever happen. While we all "want" this update and patch notes or even a warm and fuzzy response from CCP, we wont get it until Sony says its ok. Which could be the 20th, by the way sony works.
I agree with you that some if not all of the lack of communication leading up to this morning's announcements may have been Sony's doing.
I'm just not going to sit back and silently let that be the case. I am going to ***** and whine on this forum. If anyone can give me a point of contact at Sony where my bitching and whining might not fall on deaf ears - I want it. I've been asking for it.
I am an American. Despite our current embarrassing and worrisome trend of sniping and fighting amongst ourselves while big business takes over this nation (and thus the world), I consider it my personal responsibility to stand up and speak my mind.
I intend to be a voice heard if not heeded. I have a sense of ownership in EVE, DUST, my nation and my planet. With that sense of ownership comes a sense of personal responsibility.
If I don't state my point of view and contend and contest my perspective - if I don't exercise my right to vote, complain, debate and compromise about the issues at hand -- then I resolutely accept whatever may come. Be it at the hands of a multinational corporation, a game company that won't listen or talk back to me or at the point of a gun held by someone who wants me to shut up.
Not sitting down quietly. Not going along with the crowd. Stating my view. Listening to yours. Reaching new conclusions. Comproming and cooperating in search of a better game, better relationship with my peers and better world in which to share them. |

Aaron,
You and I disagree on many many levels. On fundamental levels regarding the worth of one voice.
Thank you for your input. Thank you for writing to tell me how you feel about this issue.
I support your freedom to disagree with me and let me know why you disagree.
CCP, Sony? Do it like Aaron. Tell me to sit down and shut up. Tell me I'll know when you are ready to tell me I know. Tell me how stupid and powerless you think I am.
Just tell me. |

So totally the biggest problem about all of this make a game for the same crowd on a new console?? Sony must be desperate to shift more ps3s this year! I feel bad for you guys. This game is blatantly being made for you, but for some reason on the wrong platform. You're a different breed of gamer than the ps3 crowd, and unfortunately CCP's reliance on your feedback for the final version runs an incredible risk of creating a dud....... forever known as the game that should have been on PC. KB/M is the start of it, and unless its embraced as a PS3 game for PS3 gamers its not gonna end up well---- but at least you now have a shiny new PS3 to play COD on
But see, I think of DUST/EVE more as one game.
Maybe in 2017 (not that far off) we will all think of playing in New Eden as something you do wherever you play games. On your smartphone, tablet, television, pc, console and that new thing just now coming out.
Maybe the days of playing your game in one particular place or fashion are slowing setting. Stop thinking of DUST as an EVE spin off or a new console FPS.
Starting thinking of this game as being played where ever you are. Always in the game. Always playing. |

If you think EVE is good for massive online gaming; if you think sandbox, deep, diverse complex gameplay is good for this industry...
If you love player vs player with meaningful outcomes for both winner and loser or if you love games where people can have a blast competing with each other without even firing a shot...
Then why not think of what we are building with CCP as bigger than what's currently out there? Why not believe that THIS could be where YOU got aboard and pushed for something new?
EVE didn't find CCP anymore than that first Stick found that lucky troop of Monkeys.
Its what you do with it once you get it into your hot little fists that matters |

In case you all haven't seen it. CCP has posted the most detailed and welcome of patch notes.
Thank you all. Thank you, CCP. Wonderful informative and, no CDR, we didn't miss the fact that you've given us this terrific info first.
